Students - Your Input and Choices

All expectant families deserve to have a skilled midwife . . .

Because I thoroughly believe in the Midwifery Model of Care, and I firmly believe that all women need access to a midwife, I have invited carefully selected students to study at Frisco Birth Center. Midwifery is an art that has always been handed down through the apprenticeship model.

The other dearly held ideal of midwifery care is shared decision making and informed consent. It’s your birth. Your memories. You get to choose! We have created this link and form to be a safe and easy place for you to share your thoughts. You are always welcome to share your thoughts and preferences in appointments too, but this is a low-stress, safe way to share your thoughts too.

HERE’S THE BIG PICTURE:

In the first appointments (10-20 weeks), you’ll probably meet both students in appointments. Margie will lead the appointments and the students may assist as much as you are comfortable, with your consent. (There is a consent form in the portal).

After 20-weeks, your appointments will have just Margie and 1 student. If you have a preference for a student, you can let us know. We’ll spend the rest of your pregnancy building that sense of trust and continuity with the student in the room at your prenatals. .

In the weeks leading up to your birth, you’ll probably build a great relationship with the student. If you feel confident with them, you can opt to have the student take a larger role alongside Margie in your birth.

At any point, if you want more or less student involvement, you can either text or call Margie directly, or, you can fill out this form which will generate an email that goes only to Margie.

This survey can be submitted as often as you want. The students and I sincerely appreciate any constructive feedback you have for us along the way.

I am also available for a phone call now and always,

We seriously appreciate all your feedback . .. we’ll put it all to good use.

Your input will help us provide better care.

Thank you!
